The playground of the park, a unique VR franchisewill present its first VR minigame experience, Carnival Showdown, at this year’s IAAPA Expo Europe in Amsterdam. This new competitive multiplayer VR experience brings the fun and familiarity of theme park games to life in a series of engaging mini-games. It is already available to guests at The Park Playground locations in Ghent and Antwerp, Belgium.
The experience will be rolled out to all The Park Playground locations, and IAAPA Expo Europe 2024 attendees will have the opportunity to experience it for themselves. Carnival Showdown will also become available for businesses to purchase as an add-on experience to their existing VR systems.
Three short games challenge players to collect as many points as possible
Unlike The Park’s previous VR experiences, Carnival Showdown focuses on a sequence of shorter, point-based activities rather than longer, narrative-driven experiences. Groups of up to four people aged seven or over can take part in this fun and competitive challenge. The experience can be a standalone activity or an introduction to virtual reality. The lively and fast-paced style of these minigames makes for easy replayability and keeps players coming back often.
The main goal of the three competitive mini-games, Copy Cat, Balloon Popper and Bouncy Barrage, is for players to collect as many points as possible before the timer runs out. The action takes place in a simulated funfair setting where minigames are played in a predetermined order determined by a spinning wheel of rewards presented to players by the in-game host.
Balloon Popper, a semi-rhythmic game inspired by popular fairground attractions, has players aim at specific balloons, some of which score points while others drop them. In Bouncy Barrage, players have to throw balls at different targets to steal points from rival players. Players must mimic the stage poses of the string puppet from the last game, Copy Cat, to earn points. The soundtrack for each encounter is designed to match the intensity of the game as it unfolds, creating a thrilling atmosphere that pushes players to succeed.
Fun and affordable VR experience
This VR experience was made with accessibility in mind, with short, easy-to-understand games that even non-VR enthusiasts can enjoy. In addition, players can change the level of the game in real time, making it easier for beginners and more challenging for experienced players. The order of the minigames is randomly changed for each game to guarantee that each experience is distinct and players can expect more surprises.
Players move on to the next VR activity experience after a short rest period between each. This gives partners more opportunities to sell drinks and snacks to guests, increasing their convenience and enjoyment.
“We look forward to rolling out Carnival Showdown to all of our locations to offer our customers a new style of experience. To run this experience, companies only need one 2×2 playing field per player, which is perfect for those with limited space who want to use VR,” says Gilles-Adrien CenniCTO of The Park Playground.
“During the rollout process, we will focus on optimizing the flow of this experience to ensure we deliver the greatest possible value for VR customers. We’ve seen exceptional results so far and are working hard to provide additional minigames that will be offered as part of Carnival Showdown so guests can experience something different every time they play.”
The Park Playground team will be at booth #8947 during IAAPA Expo Europewhere the company will also present “Park VR Tour‘, a new customizable experience for team-building events and group visits.
